Marion Gerlind at her desk
Marion Gerlind

Marion specializes in teaching 20th Century to present-day German cultural studies. As a native German, with near-native fluency in English, she has taught all levels of German language, literature and culture to undergraduate students and community-based classes of adult learners, in both Germany and the United States, since 1988 (see curriculum vitae).

Marion's writing and scholarship is interdisciplinary, integrating feminist, minority and Holocaust research with German Studies (see Book Chapters).

She enjoys mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, promoting critical thinking, cross-cultural understanding, and respect for each student’s unique path. (see Student Comments)

Teaching Philosophy

"I was not looking forward to taking this required course, but I enjoyed it immensely. The lectures were always helpful and the instructor created a fun, learning and encouraging environment.

Hopefully I will have another chance to take a class from her."
